Yes folks, now that the Mac will support booting into Windows and Mac OSX, I’m going to get myself a Mac with the dual Intel processors!
As a designer and a programmer of websites for people who have the choice, I have to be able to test out functionality on all desktop systems (within reason). Also ,as a programmer of websites in various scripting languages, I need to be able to build systems and scripts, which will run on the target server - usually a Linux box.
So, having the opportunity to switch/boot back and forth and get the best of both (all) worlds is a “createc’s dream”. I’m looking forward to using apps on OS X which are suited to the job, like video editing. Photoshop, Flash and Director make no difference to me, as they run the same on both, more or less (given a few speed differences on start up). I’m looking forward to trying out Front Row, and developing some video podcast channels for that. I’m looking forward to building and compiling cool Unix based stuff in Mac OS X Darwin - apart from a few things, it’s just the same as being on the command line on my remote Linux box.
Lots and lots of things to do. I have heard that Windows running on these things is ‘the fastest I’ve ever seen Windows run’. I quite like the Mac OS X interface, but I have been a Windows user for so long, I get annoyed with the way that Apple do some things. It’s really not that intuitive, imho.
Now, the question is : Which one to get? I think it’s going to be one of the laptops. But I bet they’ll release a wider MacBook Pro, just as I buy the 15 incher. Also, the idea of having a MacMini sit above a cupboard acting as my home server / gateway is very attractive. It will depend on the noise levels. Also the 20 inch iMac is great value, but isn’t a versatile with where I can put it.
So, probably the super-duper-pumped-and-jacked MacBook Pro. I can’t wait! But, I’m going to have to, as Easter is upon us and we’re off to Bonny Scotland to se the Doc’s family. Heh. They have wifi now, so I’ll still be able to get a fix online
[and do some more WORK!]
I have had a mixed experience of pain, joy, confusion and wonder, but best of all is CARTOONS. Channel Frederator, from the people who brought us Cow and Chicken and The Fairly Odd Parents, etc put together a great video podcast of animations they get sent from people. Easy to forget how atomfilms used to be the only place you could get this kind of fix, in one place. No more. Love it.
I just had a look to see how I can assign my WP categories to posts made via the OPML Editor - right click on the title outline in the WP Workspace - imagine my surprise when I saw now my lost of Categories - but (a shortened version of) Daves!!
Nice to see Yahoo! further enhancing their Flash based YahooMaps Beta with satellite imagery, extending the Yahooniverse! [only 56 hits on Google so far - 21 hits on Yahoo!

Testing a crosspost to this blog using the OPML Editor and wordpress.root Tool.
Will test insertion of media types which native WP does not support - ie: Flash.
Trying my Flash OPML Blogroll from my old OPML blog:
Hmmm… it should be there above this. it isn’t. I imagine they must be stripping out the OBJECT and EMBED tags using the PHP strip_tags function - where it’s easy to strip out tags you don’t want from a post - and allow those you do.
Oh well.
Well done Niall Kennedy on his move to Microsoft, to work on the feed syndications elements of Live.com
At least we know they have someone there who really knows their stuff. Cool!
Beard 2.0 : Now you see it - Now you don’t!
Published April 10, 2006 OPML , beard , podcast.com 4 CommentsYes, today's Beard 2.0 is much like the Beard 1.0 of yesterday. Only this time it's better! More agile!
Hirsute no more!!!!!
By the way. I have started to blog again over at opml.org. http://blogs.opml.org/koz It simply does more. And gives me the flexibility I need to do the things I need to do. And one of those things is to make a few things more easy for you too.
I hope!
Also, stay tuned over at blog.podcast.com where we should be opening up the blog to let you all in on the developments over there, this week. Also we plan on setting you loose on one of the big toys we've been building for you.
Wish us luck!

And then guess what happened???
I bought TWO iPods!!!! (I feel so dirty)
I decided I have to know the 'dark side' at first hand, if I am going to require universal justification of opinion
[weird: wordpress says I dont have permission to categorize this post as I'd like??]
Wow. Apple are officially supplying some software for the new Intel-based MacBooks which lets the user install their copy of WindowsXP alongside the Mac OS X, providing a dual-boot setup!
Now, I'm just about to get in the market of choosing a new laptop, as the one I have just doesn't have enough grunt to do the things I want to do, while on the move. This could well be the solution I have been looking for, as I like to use a Mac too, to test things and also to utilise the great UNIX-like development system (Darwin) which the Mac OS X has under the bonnet. The 'Boot Camp' software will appear in the next release of OS X, due for preview in August.
I wonder how well my Windows apps will perform though, compared to native Windows/Intel setups. Also, will this present a load of support issues with those apps that might not work correctly, once people intall them to this new platform.
Surely a matter of a short time until we see some benchmarks appear from people who have tried this.
