Mobile Top Level Madness!!!! 1666622444 !!!!

What’s that number? Well, that’s the TEN (count ‘em) mobile keyboard button pushes that will be required for simply typing the END of the url!!!!

Who even thinks these things up? At least .WAP was a simple ‘1927′ – let me guess, it wasn’t a european who came up with this .mobi top level domain – they(we)’ve used mobiles for a hell of a lot longer for mobile sites and data access.

I’m sorry, but though I like the idea of a mobile TLD, but to have to hit my keyboard TEN TIMES to type in the just the last past of a mobi url is just ‘3338822255444664022277729999999‘!!!!

if it wasn’t $300 i’d get an .mp address, https://www.get.mp/. makes alot more sense.

    indeed – what unthinking idiocy.

unless all our phones become touch screen-based. Maybe it should have been .dm? it stands for dot mobile and is just 36.

Well – typing clrclrclrclr (to delete the stupid default www. in many phones) then 16 (to type in m.) and later 12226666 (.com) isn’t really any more pleasure

Things like this simply need better solutions, for example getting your handset vendor or operator to specify “.mobi” as part of the default list of TLDs / keywords in the dictionary / type assist functions of the handset.

As such, that was never really an issue for me and in T9 “.mobi” can be made an automatic suggestion already after typing “16″.

MP was a niche, is a niche and will liekly remain a niche; and actually an expensive one.

On dotMobi, Global Markteers increasingly recognize the value and benefit – i still remain positive that the next million dotMobi names will require less than a year from today, specifically if the emerging Asian markets pick up further, specifically India and China.

    Best regards,

    Allkindsofthings

Who is this ‘kosso’ anyway?

I am a 'Createc'. A creative technologist, entrepreneur/ hacker/ geek. Worked on building things on the web for over 12 years.

I'm engaged to the beautiful Efisia Fele :)

Used to work at BBC News interactive and created the publishing and delivery systems for video news to get distributed on huge screens in major railway stations around the country.

I left the BBC to become CTO / sole-lead architect/developer at podcast.com for three years.

I have now left them to build a start up a new system called 'Phreadz', which is a 'Social Multimedia Conversation Network', integrating everything that is 'V.I.T.A.L' to us on the web. Video, Images, Text, Audio and Links.

I built the whole thing my myself and will soon be looking for funds to expand the team and system to make it available to launch.

There are currently happy and helpful 500 (closed) beta testers on the system so far and one client of a white-labelled solution.

Phreadz has a business model, which is already working.
