Happy Birthday Scripting News

Arguably the long-running weblog in the World, Dave Winer’s Scripting News turns 10 years old today.

Happy Birthday! Keep diggin’. And Thanks Dave.

Two years ago today, I was sat with Dave in a bar in New York, drinking coffee and doing a podcast. Two years! Wow. How time flies!

It’s also Frontier‘s 19th Birthday too, btw.

Viva Las Vegas! CES here I come!!

Lock up your gadgets!!!! Kosso is coming to Las Vegas!!! πŸ™‚

I should be leaving home here in about 9 hours then off over the Atlantic andf the USA to Las Vegas for CES 2007! Hurrah! Last time I went there is was 2005. We had different gadgets and new ones which had promise which held truee till now. Here’s pic of my packing last time, when I went on behalf of the BBC πŸ˜‰ Here’s the moblog I did from there last time!

I have been working on an upgrade to the camoby concept for stuff to do with and bloghud.comΒ  – It’s working nicely so far and I plan to use it to create a feed of text, images, aufio or video while at the show and around about.

This year, CES will be all about the CONTENT which can get on the gadget I saw a couple of years ago – as well as the new ones.Β  πŸ˜‰ I cant wait to see everyone again! And I do like a bit of BlackJack!
I’ll let you know the feed when I have it all set up finally. I’m still building it! πŸ™‚

I am taking a little less with me, as now I have a better system written πŸ˜‰ I’ll tell you all about it when I get there πŸ˜‰

This, tied with the other stuff I have been cooking on the upgrade will be very nice indeed, if I do say so myself. Different. Useful (hopefully), fun and informative.

See you on the other side!! πŸ™‚

mymoblog, hismoblog, mybloghud, etc, etc

It’s funny seeing Dave’s posts.Β  The early posts look just like my or accounts πŸ˜‰

We developers like to talk to ourselves while testing (move long – nothing to see here πŸ˜‰

What other free blogging systems should I support? All of them. Including the pay ones. But if those people who run pay blogging systems (6apart etc.) want support, I’ll need a free acount (dev account) please. Thank you.

You know it’s worth it πŸ˜‰

My first interview about the BlogHUD for IN THE GRID magazine

Last night, an avatar called Miller Copeland came over to ‘The RSS Platform‘ on Second Life to interview me about the blogHUD for his new magazine about Second Life called IN THE GRID!

We had a great long chat about stuff, which you can read over here.

Miller has been a publishing industry veteran for 15 years, so it will be really interesting to see how this new publication comes together.

Thanks man!!(or woman?!?) lol.

Tech Trends

According to Google Trends (an interesting site I had forgotten about until Dave Winer just linked to it), Podcasting is just as popular as Blogging πŸ˜‰ (But blogging has been around for longer)

Also, RSS is way more popular than ATOM. (It’s easier imho)

blogHUD coverage!

Woo! While my back has been turned away from my blogHUD system, which lets people post blog posts and publish rss feeds to, I found these articles on it. Cool! And thanks! πŸ™‚
Wonderland: Social software for managing Second Lives

Social Sim: Two thumbs up for the BlogHUD

Second Life Insider: BlogHUD : SLI Bloggers say ‘We’re Doomed’

Also, just to say that I’m very close to having a version which posts to any WordPress blog soon – and possibly blogger/blogspot if I get the time to do the extra code.

Is there MetaWeblog API support in the OPML Editor blogs?

Has anyone out there had any luck in using the metaWeblog API to post to their blog?

I can do it with a WordPress blog, and I assumed Dave’s system would support it. There are references to it in the .root files.

I tried to send an xmlrpc message (metaWeblog.newPost) to: with a path of /RPC2 to port 5337 – with the appropriate parameters (I hope)

The server replied that metaWeblog was not defined. I’m quite suprised by this. I must be doing something wrong. Anyone got any ideas?

Also, does anyone know where I might find a list of blogging system which support the metaWeblog API? I notice that is moving over to the ATOM API, which makes life slightly more complicated.

Getting a facelift and meeting a ‘virtual god’

Yesterday I gave the blogHUD a little facelift, which was cool and bizarre that I should meet Cory Ondrejka at Cory Doctorow’s leaving do last night (in ‘MeatSpace – that’s the ‘real world’, folks πŸ˜‰ ).

Cory Ondrejka is one of the ‘gods’ of Second Life [VP of Product Development at Linden Lab] – He also wrote a version of RoadRash! – Here’s a podcast from ITConversations with Cory talking at Accelerating Change 2004.

Very much looking forward to continue that a conversation we were all having in the cab! πŸ™‚

Also, congratulations to Yoz and co. and his brand new baby! Cory Doctorow said the baby was ‘firing Cute-ons!’ heheh.

Who is this ‘kosso’ anyway?

I am a 'Createc'. A creative technologist, entrepreneur/ hacker/ geek. Worked on building things on the web for over 12 years.

Used to work at BBC News interactive and created the publishing and delivery systems for video news to get distributed on huge screens in major railway stations around the country.

I left the BBC to become CTO / sole-lead architect/developer at for three years.

I have now left them to build a start up a new system called 'Phreadz', which is a 'Social Multimedia Conversation Network', integrating everything that is 'V.I.T.A.L' to us on the web. Video, Images, Text, Audio and Links.

I built the whole thing my myself. I programmed every line of code and positioned every pixel. I'm looking forward to attracting an hiring new members of the team to help me out! :)

There are currently over 1000 happy and helpful beta testers on the system so far and one client of a white-labelled solution.
